    Hi all,

    Just bought this thinking that the Zalman CNPS9700 LED fan would need a good thermal paste. Much to my surprise the Zalman fan came with a high quality paste (ZM-STG1). In fact, Im giving this paste only 4 stars because its not as easy to apply as the Zalman paste, which comes in a bottle with a brush and used like white-out. Be sure to apply a think coating on both the CPU and intended heat-sink of whichever paste you use. SA5 paste requires a 200 hour curing period with multiple heat cycles, whereas the ZM-STG1 doesnt. The SA5 may be marginally better (1 degree C cooler), but that is questionable. ...

    Best thermal compound on the market

    Arctic Silver 5 is the best thermal compound on the market. There are other types that might be better for specific purposes (Arctic Cramique for example), but for cooling a CPU, this is the best. Ive used it extensively for quite a few computer builds as well as a few special projects like replacing the thermal compound on an Asus Formula X48 mother boards Northbridge and Southbridge heatsinks.

    The results are always a 4-10c drop in CPU temperatures under load. You will not notice a huge difference at idle. The real gains in heat dissipation come when the CPU is being pushed. Also, dont trust the board makers proprietary software to tell you what your temperatures are download a good program like RealTemp 2.41 or Everest for free (use google to find them). Either will give you more accurate numbers than Asus PC Probe, or whatever software your board manufacturer supplies.

    There are some saying Arctic Silver 5 didnt lower their temperatures. That is almost certainly because theyre using it incorrectly, which I can understand since the instructions provided are minimally useful. So for those of you who are not familiar with applying thermal paste, here is the process:

    1. Remove the old thermal compound. This is accomplished by using Isopropyl alcohol to dissolve and loosen the old thermal paste. I recommend purchasing an ArctiClean kit. For minimal cost it will give you the compound remover, as well as an excellent surface preparer. Apply a several drops of the cleaner to the top of the chip and let it soak for 20-30 seconds. You might have to reapply more drops of cleaner again depending on how much thermal compound was present on the chip to begin with. Wipe all the waste off with a lintless cloth or cotton swabs.

    2. Apply a surface cleaner. You can use more alcohol, or the surface preparer that comes in the arctic silver kit. Make sure there are no traces of the old compound: you can tell that the surface is perfectly clean when you can wipe it with a new q-tip and it comes away pure white.

    3. Apply Arctic Silver 5. DO NOT USE TOO MUCH! If you do, it will squish outside the edge of the chip, get on your motherboard, the CPU locking mechanism, your hands, etc... It makes a real mess. Start with a small amount and add more if necessary. The idea here is to get a THIN, EVEN LAYER across the entire chip surface. A toothpick actually works really well at spreading the paste around. You should not be able to see any part of the metal of the chip when youre done. Less is more in this instance many people think they need to slather this stuff onto the chip, but trust me that does nothing but make a mess.

    4. Install your heat sink and fan assembly. I recommend getting an aftermarket heat sink as those provided by Intel are notoriously poor. Zalman makes some great ones. Do NOT buy on that uses push pins to lock in place. You want one with screws and mounting bracket so that it is very securely attached to the motherboard and in turn, your CPU. This is probably equally important to applying the thermal compound correctly, because all the compound in the world wont help you if the heatsink isnt making solid contact with the chips surface.

    If you follow those steps, you will see a massive improvement in your core temps. Just remember that heat dissipation is achieved by the fans in your case and heatsinks, not the compound itelf. The compound simply allows for a much better transfer for heat from chip-->heatsink. I swear by Arctic Silver, and I promise you it works if you use it correctly.

    This is a great cooler, I recently dropped in a Q6600 to replace my overclocked E6600. Everything went well and the Q6600 was able to hit 3.6ghz easy (400x9). The only problem was that the quad core put a lot more strain on the FSB than the dual core so the northbridge was getting too hot, which was causing some instability at high load.

    Actually installing this thing did not lower my idle temps very much (maybe 2-3C, idling at 38C now, was around 40) but the temperature raise under load has been dramatically improved. With the stock NB heatsink (fanless Gigabyte 965p-ds3) my load temps would be in the high 50C range, now they are around 43C, only a slight raise above the idle temp! And the system is stable at 3.6ghz now thanks to this little beast =)

    The only thing to watch out for when installing this is to be sure to tighten it to the motherboard enough. When I first installed it was not tight enough and it actually was worse than the stock heatsink. I then tightened it so the top of the screw almost pokes out of the top of the fastening nut and everything works perfectly.

    Before installing, my PC would crash constantly. This made my thermally flaky Asus PN5 MB- which has a HOT northbridge- work nice and stable. The static aluminum heat sink was almost 150F this is just a shade over body temperature.

    I bought this to replace the fanless heatsink on my motherboard chipset which was getting a bit too hot for my tastes. The product worked pretty well at cooling the chipset, but the fan developed a nasty squeal after only a few months of operation. Around this time I also noticed a drop in system stability, presumably due to the fact that the chipset was overheating. The problem with fans this small is that the bearings tend to wear out pretty quickly.

    I didnt bother trying to get it replaced under warranty because the hassle and cost isnt really worth it to me, so I just replaced it with a different heatsink that uses a much larger fan. I actually ended up not using a fan on the new heatsink and I havent had any problems yet.

    Install was not for somebody who is clueless in the tech field. I had no problems. Works like a charm and I can now rest in peace knowing my northbridge is properly cooled. It has a cool blue glow to boot.

    I got the Extreme Spirit II when I found that the passive heatsink I installed on the chipset was running very hot. It was hot enough to feel burning to the touch. The Extreme Spirit II came with all the accessories and screws needed for my motherboard. Since my board already had loop holes built in next to the chipset I just had to hook it on and tighten. The fan fun whisper quiet next to my loud Coolit Eliminator.

    Theres not a lot to say on the whole. Ive used Western Digital hard drives for YEARS and had pretty reliable drives on the whole. This one has been extremely quiet and I like having the extra space for some videos. It replaces a former setup of dual 80gb WD EIDE drives and I like this setup much better and it really opened up the inside of the case for airflow and reduced heat by getting an extra drive out as well as the last of the EIDE cables.

    This hard drive has been a life saver for all of my novels and photography. I had to change over from a EIDE with adapters yet it was worth all of the time and effort for insuring a safe and reliable source to store all of my valued and vital information.

    Unlike the other review, this came with everything needed (paste, pins, etc) The fan is fairly quite...a little noisier than the factory fan, but also works better. Its got a good weight to it. I dont have any actual temperature readings, but the chipset used to get quite hot and now it stays cool.

    Some little tips...try to push both pins down at once, the tight fit makes doing one at a time doable, but difficult. Also, make sure the wires arent touching the fan (youll hear it)...same for when you put the top cage on (the Tt part you see in the picture)

    The heat sink is polished but the fan seems a bit out of place relative to the polished heat sink. However, I havent seen too many fan this small so perhaps thats as good as it gets. The one detail thats missing are the pins that secure it to the board--they are not included! Too heavy to glue so for anyone looking to upgrade from nothing or stock sink to something this fancy, better find a couple of plastic pins to keep it on the chip. I cant comment on noise level because I have other fans that are drowning out the noise. By itself its not that quiet given a tiny fan has to spin pretty fast to move air. Did I mention its really shiny?

    I have really bad acid reflux, and this works very well for it, but the side effects are almost not worth the benefits.

    Ever since Ive been taking Prilosec OTC, Ive experienced extreme weight gain that I cannot lose, excessive uncomfortable gas and bloating almost constantly, and a generally upset stomach.

    I tried to stop using Prilosec for a few weeks and the symptoms went away. I felt so much better, no gas or bloating, my stomach felt great, and I started to lose weight. Unfortunately the acid reflux was too unbearable so I had to return to Prilosec, and the symptoms came back immediately and I gained the back weight I lost plus some.

    My experience has been verified by many other people on Prilosec who went through the same thing. I cant wait to find something that works as an alternative.

    I use to, like many, wake up in the middle night grabbing my chest in pain, not being able to sleep. I started taking this and life is better. This is going to sound foolishly irresponsible, but now, I eat whatever I want and still be fine when Im sleeping. Whatever parts of my body (and figure) may be deteriorating but as far as heartburn goes, i dont feel a thing.

    Ive been taking this for over 2 years now. I know the box says you should stop after a few weeks, but I have no plans for that (and my doctor said it was fine). It does take a few days, like the box says for the medicine to work.

    I have gradually tried to go to a cheaper generic version of the prilosec (the back of the box list the same thing!) but for some reason, whether it is illogical or psychological, i feel that the prilosec brand is by far the best and worth the extra money. My suggestion is the check out ebay where you can get it for about 2/3 of the listed price here on amazon or your local store.

    One of thing, if this applies to you - there seems to be some sort of coating the the prilosec pills. With the generic ones, i can taste the chalking of it, meaning it starts to break up once you put it in your mouth, leaving you with that nasty taste until you grab your cup of water. But the prilosec, it is dry and you have a few seconds to sallow.

    Great for Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease (LPR) too!

    This drug has done wonders in getting me through a bad bout of laryngopharyngeal reflux disorder--in which the typical symptoms of heartburn arent recognizable. A much needed and very effective, as well as easy to take, drug that has no side effects!

    Know the difference between PPIs, H2 blockers and Antacids

    Prilosec is the oldest of the Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) on the market. So, it has a loooooong history, and to my knowledge a safe history. As for me, I take comfort in a drug that has a long safe history, and that is why I like Prilosec. Also, for me, the side effects occurred in the first few days, but then wore off. I still have minor gas problems, but there may be an anti-gas OTC drug available for that, I dont know yet. One thing I learned is that it is helpful to know the differences between an Antacid (e..g. Tums, Rolaids, etc.), a PPI (e.g. Prilosec, the actual drug name being "omeprazolel") and an H2 blocker (e.g. Pepcid, the actual drug name being "famotidine"). All three work differently from each other and have different side effects. A pharmacist or your doctor should be able to tell you the differences. All I know is that an antacid is simply a huge dose of calcium carbonate that works immediately to reduce the acid already in the stomach. That is why you feel immediate relief, albeit one which lasts only one or two hours and come 4 am you feel the bottom of your esophagus on fire again. PPIs and H2 blockers instead go through your bloodstream and eventually (that is why it takes much more time than an antacid) alter the acid producing mechanisms (pumps?) in your stomach. I have Barretts Esophagus (loosely defined as a more advanced condition of GERD), and my understanding is that PPIs are better for this condition. The point is, if you know more about your condition and the differences between Antacids, PPIs and H2 blockers, you will save yourself an immense amount of trouble and time. For example, if you find a PPI such as Prilosec aint working for you, then it will probably be the case that other PPIs are not going to work for you either, since their base chemical formulation works in a similar way. Ergo, switch to an H2 blocker and see what happens. If both PPIs and H2 blockers give you unbearable side effects, then you probably have to go through the entire laundry list of PPIs and H2 blockers out there. Good luck.

    This is a great option for those who havent been diagnosed with diabetes. Once diagnosed, insurance will help pay for tests, but then youve got a "pre-existing condition" which might prevent you from getting coverage in the future (seen the movie "Sicko" yet?). Along with careful use of a meter, this test can give you an accurate picture of where you stand in this epidemic. Then you can go see your healthcare provider, way ahead of the curve, with an idea of where you stand and having a plan for action.

    I only gave the test four stars since there was no online way to check my results. I think it took about 10 days to get my results even though the lab tests the blood on the day they receive it. Luckily for me, I dodged this bullet and have made the necessary lifestyle changes.

    I tell all my patients that you are your ultimate healthcare provider. Use this information wisely and make good decisions. Do your homework!

    I had used A1C home tests before, and I was expecting this one to be like that one. Previously I would get the reading in a few minutes right from home, just like a regular Diabetic Glucose reading.

    This I needed to mail to a lab, and I have not received the results yet!

    So we will see. Now you understand why I have been tardy with this review.
